The Eastern Region are very grateful to have the use of four Swift coxed quads donated by Charles Stanley in 2018 – they’re great boats for recreational rowing but also for learn to row courses, or fundraising type events – if you think your club could use them please pass on details to others in your club – we have a dedicated email address: firstname.lastname@example.org.
The boats were first put to use to enable some 50 rowers to take part in a new event – Tour of the Broads, (organized by Broadland, Yare, Beccles Lowestoft & Norwich). Boats booked again for 2019’s tour
Isle of Ely RC used these boats to run their popular adult learn to row courses. Each course ended with a fun regatta which was open to other clubs and welcomed rowers from Peterborough City RC and Milton Keynes RC. Plans for similar in 2019 – look to invite Charles Stanley along to the regatta day.
Broxbourne RC took the boats along to the National Tour which, as you would expect, went extremely well. Boats to be used in 2019 National Tour 2019.
West Norfolk RC: held an informal timed head race in April with 23 crews from the home club Peterborough & IoERC. They also did a trial run of a Cambridge to Denver Tour over 2 days which worked well. The tour is planned to run this year in May for club members only this year.
Rob Roy BC used the boats to run a popular parents/junior event – getting parents of their own juniors to enjoy fun on the water. Despite it being held at the beginning of December on one of the coldest days of the year the event was a great success. Booked again for 2019 and additionally for a similar event in September.
In summary, each event that hired the boats in 2018 have booked them again for 2019 – so a good base to start from.
